I realize that I am probably the last person on the internet to discover Remi Gaillard. Nonetheless, when I saw his gymnastics video, I couldn’t help but think of the Tokyo Metro “Manner Poster” series and felt like sharing.

So for those of you also inhabiting the same little backwater of the internet as I, here are some of his Japan-themed videos.

His channel on youtube is nqtv. I also recommend astronaut, Tour de France (maybe NSFW), and kangaroo. Seems he’s played a little soccer – I mean football and enjoys having a go at the ridiculousness of American football touchdown celebrations. There is also a UK news program in English explaining some of Remi’s background.

I would just like to add that the news program that was linked was in fact produced by a GERMAN not a British broadcaster. DW (Deutsche Welle) is an international broadcaster, similar to the BBC, who broadcast radio and TV programs in several languages, including English, and are based in Bonn, Germany.

Sorry for that, I misinterpreted “English TV” to mean TV from England. And they announcer sounds British to me, so I just assumed it was from the UK.

Thanks for the translation. On his youtube channel it is written as “It’s by doing whatever that one becomes whoever,” which reminds me of the output from an online translation.

I guess that yellow color doesn’t show up very well on camera, but I’m sure its a shock to foreigners who read the brochure.

Maybe not? Because the number of fingers is different from typical Asian-Americans. They have only four fingers per hand.

I think I’m living in the same cave that steve is, though I’ve seen that Pacman vid before.

I’d be rooting for him and his antics if it’s just doing something wacky in public, but I think the first Mario Kart video where he throws crap in the street is going a little too far with reckless endangerment of other drivers.

I saw a Japanese guy do pull ups on the train to umeda one time. they should make a sign for that or maybe even a sign that shows old Japanese men trying to talk to foreigners late at night, saying “aru yu furamu amerika?” DO IT AT HOME.

Regarding the translation, the one from _rem is inaccurate.
The closest would “It’s by doing stupid things that you become nobody”. You can’t literaly translate “n’importe quoi” without losing the unspoken notion of childish stupidty that goes with every video.

Now, my 2 cents.
I’ve been loosely following his rise since 2000 when he was broadcasted on a french TV station (MCM), and I have to say that as the years go, I’m more and more disappointed.

At the beginning, he was very amateur (you’ve got to keep in mind that he was jobless at that time) and you could feel in each video that he was just trying to have fun and entertain the others. His ideas have been stolen by the stars of the TV at that time.
But now, all he does is stealing other people ideas (Pac-Man is such a 100% copy of a video on youtube in an US college…) or harming people (when he shoots footballs at people for Nike viral video campaign).

I think he has become what he blamed. And it’s sad, really. He used to be so funny, now, to me, he’s just an ass…
