Really long gas station

This gas station in Yamaguchi Prefecture is apparently long enough that it deserves to be featured on TV as something odd and strange:

There isn’t really any shocking reason why it was built that way. The owner just says he thought it would be a good idea to have it set up so that customers wouldn’t have to wait.

OK, I’ll bite. I find this endless search for “weird stuff” on Japanese TV to be a little off-putting, especially when they come up with stuff like this that’s really not that weird, just very slightly different from normal.

I can easily see Japanese kids going to school the next day and playing the same game only looking for students who are any different from the norm.

Giving a program title is enough, “What’s this!? One Hundred Views of Oddity”. Although “Weird Japan” freaks may forget about the program title completely, and then they might spread a “weird stuff” as if it were the norm or usual stuff in Japan.

Anyway, I think James (of Japan Probe) is completely different than “that” kind of people; Lisa Katayama, some of Tokyo Correspondents, and any other annoying Reuters writers whose only way to keep their job seems to be to find a pervert out of tens of millions people and a few oddities out of thousands commercial products and then argue their (or other’s) opinion about Japanese cultural peculiarity.

If there were no diversity nor existence of, and tolerance toward, “odd” people, then these writers/reporters would have behaved, in a sense, in an opposite manner, i.e., depicting Japan as ultimately uniform, homogeneous, and oppressive society as in…
