I wonder why you are asking me those questions. Is it s sarcasm?
I do not live in Japan now and I came to know about Pan-Kun because of this site. And I have not done any research on this chimp, but now thanks to the other poster here, ponta, I do know much more about him, which is not far away from what I thought.
I tell you I am not talkng about only Pan-kun but also about all other cute animals who got ridiculous amount of attentions by irreponsible and exploitive Japanese media and people who spoil their pets so much without developing any awareness and concern about animal’s wellfare in Japan in general, and not only on this issue but also on so many other issues.

first of all, thanks for your interest and concern to what I wrote here.
To be honest with you, I did not expect such a long response. And judged with what you wrote, I assume you can not read the infos that the other poster ponta pasted right below this. It would be much easier if you can read that. However, as this is the English site for English speakers, I cannot expect everybody to be able to read that.

Sorry, I do not want to translate the entire thing.
But according to that,

Pan-kun is owned by the private zoo called “カドリー・ドミニオン(cuddly dominion)” in Kumamoto prefecture. He was born in a zoo in Miyazaki prefecture and was moved to Cuddly Dominion in ’04 for the breeding purpose. However, as he became popular because of his cute immitation of behaviors of men, he started, of couse “was forced”, to do shows in his zoo and TV works.
The Japanese zoo association sent them a warning that forcing him to immitate behaviors of men such as wearing clothings can mis-eduate the general public about wild animals and possibly disturb the bleeding project as well.
Cuddly Dominion ignored that and left the association.
The representatives of TV show stated that they had been doing and would do this show with advices from the specialist.

The government office for the protection of the environment and the nature decided to do some hearing with Cuddly Dominion who had obtained Pan-kun for the bleeding project of endangered spieces.

Even without any research, I could easily imagine this situation. If they do something like that in American TV show, the TV station got tons of phone calls from the concerned people about the animal’s welfare. Generally speaking, Japanese have much lower awareness for any issues compared to the middle class Americans. If you stand on any corners of big cities and ask the college-age kids about political & social issues, most of them say they have no idea because they are not into politics.

There are many reason for that.
I guess one reason is that they have been enjoying a long peaceful time after WWII, which makes them to loose their interest in poltical and social issues.
Also Japanese media is much trasher than the trashest American media, and they do not do much about enlightening the general public on many issues.

I always call Japanese, and I am one of them, idiots because of their lower awareness and concerns on issues. But that does not mean I think Americans are smarter, They are the people who chose Bush twice and have the society with the huge gap between riches and poors that I can hardly call the democratic societry.

Yes, I have watched some Japanese TV programs about animal welfare and their love & concerns about care of their pets. But that is just a small part of entire picture.
Even in U.S. where so many animal right activists live, still so many sad stories about animals are going on.

If I can meet you face to face, I can explain everything about what you asked. But unfortunately, if I do that here, it’s gonna be a book.
If you think I am just complaining in a sentimental mood or I am the border line racist, that would be fine.
But I hope someday you will see the realities of the society on your own.

Well done, good imagination. Did you just forget how many complaints concerning with ill effects to the child education had been sent to TV stations and publishers by PTA in 80′s Japan? No research required?

In Japan, specialists and knowledgeable people did make a rational claim on the treatment of Pan-kun and still in dispute, while in America, there would be tons of phone calls from the concerned people about the animal welfare as expected. Do you just indicate quantity is more important than quality? Remember that America is also known as the land of full of complaints and lawsuits, so then a silly, unreasonable, extraordinarily stupid lawsuit can happen more often than other countries. How well can those concerned people actually make a rational decision? Do you have any guess on the content of those expected tons of phone calls? An emotionally motivated complaint which lacks a rational basis can never be considered as a good protest. If such kind of complaints were made in a huge amount, the situation or society would be considered ill. We had not yet reached a conclusion.

This shows the level of your understanding on this issue. Cuddly Dominion and the TV producers are the exploiters of Pan-Kun. They do not care much about his welfare, obviously.

Obviously? Do you mean you know everything on this issue including the part which are never broadcasted. Did you have actually visited Cuddly Dominion and then inspected quality of their animal welfare? I admit that I don’t understand a whole of this issue enough well. But do you? I think I had already pointed out this.

Anyway, Pan-kun isn’t living in a tropical rain forest, suposedly the most comfortable place to live for him, with many other chimpanzees. This fact itself already suggest that the situation is somewhat (actually very) different than that of wildlife. Could you explain in detail what is the appropriate animal welfare for those poor animals forcibly given their life within the human society?

As the result of that, Pan-kun can loose the way of socializing with other chimps. Yes, he can be a lonely chimp later on and that can kill the possibility of bleeding project as well.

I think it’s you who are not understanding this issue well. Cuddly Dominion and their opponents are still in dispute, the point of their debate is rather, concerned with the permissible range of unnatural (to wildlife) behaviour/treatment and the frequency of such activity. These two have, more or less, different opinion in this regard. The existence of unnatural behaviour of Pan-kun itself is not a actual matter, but rather, degree, frequency, and such other more vague and subtle things are the matter. Don’t forget Pan-kun isn’t living in a toropical rain forest or similar place with his family and collegues. If you are an idealist, devote your life for the animal liberation activity.

How do you assume that Pan-kun will go to an animal hospital after his retirement from the showbiz?

Maybe, you need to learn the meaning of the word “may”?

Do you know any animal retirement home exists in Japan?

Do a research by yourself. I already mentioned on a retirement home for the guide dogs. The future of racehorses who can’t run anymore might be sometimes terrible in some sense, but there surely exist several organizations for helping aged dogs, cats and other pet animals.

Is this a kind of sarcasm? If not, it’s entirely NOT okay. You must show that you can argue about the issue along with a solid factual, statistical, empirical, rational, and other “good” basis. Otherwise, just shut up.

I’d ignore the pointless and worthless part of your claims and will not answer to them. However, you should realize what you are doing here: You hate America and Japan, and then revile people as idiots. You are giving enough reason for yourself being hated by others.
