French Ninja Arnaud Cousergue

TV Tokyo visits France to check out the dojo of Ninja master Arnaud Cousergue:

There is some laughing at the unintelligible Japanese that Arnaud and his students recite at the beginning of their lessons and the unimpressive techniques they show off, but the segment presents a mostly positive view of their activities. After all, Arnaud and his students love Japanese culture and want to spread ninja appreciation around the world.

At Arnaud’s house they are shown some of the instructional Bujinkan DVD’s that he films and edits himself. They are sold through BudoMart.com.

I didn’t see any moves from Naruto… so I’m thinking it’s fake.

Frankly, I’m a brazilian ninjutsu praticant and I don’t care if a martial art is legitimate or not, what matter is if it is efficient, and that guy ninjutsu’s not(may be, but in the video it is not shown)… if you are going to show some moves attack for real! (excepts in case of swords^^)

The garbled japanese is funny. Aren’t they speaking Shintoist mantras or something like that? The hand clapping thing looks a bit like buddhist or shinto praying.

Also, since the Japanese master had this Chinese inherited surname roughly translated to Japanese, perhaps the words they say are also crudely translated chinese words?

Also, I don’t have a clue about martial art, but the few moves displayed seem very skilled.

Anyway, very interesting stuff, these guys are dedicated to their art. It shows that one doesn’t need to be perfect in every aspect to perform.

my buddy use to do this stuff in Japan, when I was there. He said they’re saying “shikin haramitsu daikomyo”or “詞韻波羅密大光明”

They spun that air take down thing to look pretty lousy, but from what my buddy tells me, it wasn’t even suppose to be a takedown, the student just had crappy balance and was going to either trip on his face or roll, so he rolled.

Ah, that explains it. It seems that without the context it is very difficult to figure out what are those words, as even Japaneses can’t.

The moves looked a bit like aikido moves, since the master was kinda turning his opponent’s attack against himself.

I agree too, its more akido based moves. Guess anything martial arts + japan = ninjitsu huh~ XD

yea I agree, but these guys put more stress on working with weapons and sneaking up and killing people. haha. I would say this stuff is more or less to appreciate and practice the traditional art, where as aikido is self defense.

I find it funny that the audience laughs at the Japanese of the French, whereas the pronunciation of the European names is just as bad

“SUBENERIKU!” is my favorite.

In all fairness, the names are converted into katakana spellings and then read. Therefore, the pronunciations are not strange WITHIN Japanese. However, if they use such pronunciations when speaking English, feel free to laugh your ass off.

I do understand it all and if you really did listen and watch, you could officiously see it was a comparison of Naruto (Shippuuden) and the Bujinkan / Ninpo in Europe.

And as you could see in the little mirror, it showed the Seiyu / voice actors of Naruto. Plus I could hear Godaime no Hokage her Seiyu voice doing the presentation.

I thought it was great!
