Giant hornet hunter needs no protective suit

September 29th, 2009 by James

hornet killer

Several weeks ago, I posted a video of 78-year-old exterminator Kakusaburo Arakawa wiping out giant hornets with a vacuum cleaner. Here’s a video of another hornet exterminator, Mr. Muramatsu.

Muramatsu doesn’t rely on protective suits and doesn’t need any special vacuuming machines. All he uses are nets, adhesive sheets, and spray cans of insecticide.

So he sprays insecticide on the nest and then breaks it open and eats the larve?
Or maybe he doesn’t spray the ones he eats from?

Yeah seems dangerous, but he did manage to survive for 45 years. And it seems to be not very economical buying retail spray cans like that, can’t he get something more professional?

interesting that they use music from the “straight to hell” soundtrack, a punk western from the late 80s.

i don’t imagine that spraying that bug spray all over the place is particularly healthy for those in the area. but he’s got guts.
