Google.co.jp honors Confucius’ Birthday

I noticed this logo on Google.co.jp this morning:

According to Google blogoscoped, it is a celebration of Confucius’ birthday. One of their readers translates the Chinese as:

“To have friends come from far away – isn’t that a joy?”

It’s currently visible on Google China, Google Australia, and Google New Zealand. At the moment of this posting, Google.com was still displaying its normal logo.

James, did you notice that google.com page has a different logo today as well? Not on the start page, but on the results page, google is spelled Gogglle.

There’s been a bit of speculation on the meaning of the UFO google logos, e.g., http://www.wired.com/epicenter/2009/09/google-logo-madness-here-we-go-again/
