Hugh Jackman visits Japan, eats sushi

Hugh Jackman was in Japan this week to promote the upcoming theatrical release of X-Men Origins: Wolverine*. As part of his promotional activities, he went on NTV’s “Sukkiri” morning news show and visited Tsukiji with Mari Sekine:
It lacks much of the awkwardness one usually finds when foreign celebrities appear on Japanese TV. He was friendly and polite towards everyone and really seemed to enjoy himself. The narrator keeps mentioning how Hugh is such a nice guy, and I’m inclined to agree.
In the segment, Hugh is taken to a tamagoyaki store owned and operated by TV producer Terry Ito’s brother. The day after they filmed there, Hugh and his family had some free private time to explore Tokyo. Apparently Hugh loved the tamagoyaki so much that he brought his wife and kids back to Tsukiji and visited the store so they could try the food prepared by his new friend!
*Note: Yes, that’s correct. X-Men Origins: Wolverine won’t hit Japanese theaters until September 11, 2009. According to IMDB, the film was released in the states back in May and Japan is dead last on the release date calendar. While Japanese fans will be seeing the film for the first time in theaters, Americans will already be buying it on DVD.

Hugh Jackman eats sushi (again) Hugh Jackman drinks Asahi Super Dry |

Huh. He was on Mezamashi this morning with that ever-annoying Ai-the-former-weather-girl, and they went to Tsukiji!
He had a different shirt on, though.

Very classy guy. Shame most of his movies tend to be mediocre. :-/

I love this format of interviewing foreign celebrities, kind of like how they did with Denzel Washington. Not all in some stuffy room, but outside experiencing the sights and sounds.

Mari Sekine annoys me for some reason
Hugh Jackman always comes across as a really nice guy every time ive seen him on Japanese TV and always gets fully involved unlike most who just seem completely lost

Aww, but she’s so cute though!
I have to agree about Hugh though – I saw him on Waratte ii tomo, where the regulars were acting totally silly coming up with jokes/something funny for him to do or say at his movie premiere. They were all totally ridiculous but Hugh was loving every minute of it, and was involved the whole time. Great guy

i was surprised by how good she was actually. she never got ridiculous or overzealous or even very high-pitched. her laughs even seemed authentic. i was impressed.

“Akuma” is “devil” in Japanese, “hakuman” means nothing.
And Japanese would call him “Jakkuman”, it is pretty much impossible in Japanese pronunciation to have a “k” and an “m” without a vowel in-between.

Hm, funny that X-Men Zero was available on the JAL-flights to and from Japan in August, which is where I saw the movie. Obviously, the tiny JEN-monitor pales compared to a full-blown movie theatre, but those on the flights to and from Japan at least were able to see it before the non-travelling Japanese could.

Hehe, I also saw that movie on a JAL flight. The movie was so-so, but Hugh Jackman seems to be a really nice and open-minded guy, judging from these clips.
