Mr. James spoof endorses Mos Burger

I couldn’t find a vid to link, but did you ever see that old jeans ad where a guy’s walking down a dusty road and a girl pulls over next to him and asks him if his Jean’s are Lee, and then drives off? I guess the point was that the Jeans were worth stopping to check out, but it was a pretty bad concept. A few months later Levis made the exact same ad, with the exact same actress, but this time the jeans were theirs. And when the guy answers that he is wearing Levi’s, she offers him a ride.

I think I was imagining something in the same vein, taking advantage of a mistake in your competitor’s marketing strategy and using it for your own benefit.

I think if it were just a spoof on McDonald’s, it would actually be more of “white people crying racism,” which was not my intention. By including both another restaurant and another character, we’re saying “Look, there are alternative ways to portray foreigners in Japan (like they were normal people, for example), and if McDonald’s chooses to align itself with an unflattering image of foreigners, then hey, there are alternatives to McDonald’s too.”

And I went with Mos, because they’re delicious.
