Billy Blanks’ stepdaughter is a teen model

Last night’s episode of “Sekai Gyouten News” featured high school students who were the sons and daughters of Japanese celebrities. One girl turned out to be Billy Blanks’ stepdaughter:

She was introduced as 18-year-old Marika Blanks, a half-Japanese model. Even with her last name revealed, nobody seemed to be able to correct guess the name of her father. When it came time to reveal the answer, fitness guru Billy Blanks burst on to the stage and made everyone do a little boot camp routine. Then they brought out his Japanese wife and their biological daughter.

Is it common in Japan for the stepchildren to take the stepfathers name?

I don’t know – but I imagine that a stepdaughter who wants to be famous wouldn’t think twice before taking the name of her famous stepfather.

Looking at Wikipedia, he had one daughter with his previous wife who appears in his Boot Camp videos, but then he adopted his new Japanese wife’s two kids Marriett and Erika Peterson. Perhaps the first one uses Marika as her Japanese/stage name?

Oh, and I think she’s all out of proportion to be a model, but as we all know having a famous parent opens many doors in Japan.

That ”guy”is Nakai, he has easily been among the 10 most famous man in Japan for 20 years now,
is one of the most powerful man in TV, and is also the host and producer of this show
so yes, he knew that was Billy Blanks because it is his show.
