My Darling is a Foreigner: The Movie

The popular “My Darling is a Foreigner” (ダーリン は 外国人) manga series is going to be made into a live action movie. CinemaToday.jp has posted a teaser pic:
Saori Oguri will be played by actress Mao Inoue. The role of her husband, Tony László, will be played by Jonathan Sherr.

The short animated versions they run on the screens of some JR trains are amusing and don’t have any of the bias or stereotyping that I feared a work like this would have … so I can’t give a good explanation as to why I suddenly find the idea of a live-action version so worth of a face-palm.
But I do.
Hopefully my fears will prove to be unfounded.

He’s not nearly hairy enough, but so long as he’s not speaking broken Japanese in the movie I won’t complain (much).

He couldn’t be REALLY hairy or no one would go see it. Hell, even in the US men with full beards aren’t sexy: it’s the little-more-than-stubble thing that chicks like.

Well, there are always anecdotes, but how many American stars with full beards do you see on films, where a look that will appeal to as many as possible is paramount? I’m not talking about character actors, but about those that are supposed to be attractive.

Aren’t Debito and Tony at odds with each other? It’ll be quite funny once Debito catches wind of this. A movie made about his far more successful rival.

When I read this in Japanese, I thought they mean Johnathan Shea, Lex Luther from that Superman series:

I think he and the woman is two nice looking fellas… I am enthusiastically looking forward to watch this drama even though I haven’t read the manga nor had any idea it even existed.

By the way, I would really like to read “How to “Read” Manga: Is He Turning Japanese?”, which is the English title of the book when it was published in North America a couple of years ago.
It appears to be no longer in print and after quite a bit of searching I can’t seem to find it anywhere online for purchase.
Does anyone happen to know where I might find it?

Just wonder if the couple’s experiences in apartment-hunting will be part of the movie.
You know, the part where they keep getting turned away by racist landlords because “gaijin don’t speak Japanese, always have loud parties, and will suddenly leavae Japan and skip out on rent”
This would be a great opportunity to let the Japanese public learn more about this all-too-common racist issue.
