Predicting earthquakes in Japan
Vedic Astrologer Rahul Bhatnagar has e-mailed us about this video clip he uploaded on August 2, 2009. He claims that the vague predictions he makes in the video prove he has the ability to predict earthquakes:
i am researcher have done research in predicting earthquakes specially for japan i have predicted around 15 earthquakes for japan in the past including niigata earthquake.i predict earthquake which are more that 6 on richter scale.i have also predicted recent earthquake that strike japan on 9 and 11 august 2009.check my youtube video,if you like you can publish my predictions on your site,it would be very interesting news for you as i am only person to predict earthquakes for japan till date.
Few people who are exposed to his video will probably realize that Honshu is a pretty big island and that the areas he pointed to were way off the actual locations of the most recent earthquakes. Moderately strong earthquakes are hardly rare in Japan, so it’s not surprising that wannabe mystics have often used “predictions” of Japanese earthquakes as proof of their powers.

A strong earthquake for “Western Honshu or Northeastern Honshu,” and yet it is Shizuoka that gets hit. Great aim there….

After reading some conspiracy articles about America’s HAARP that claimed it was an earthquake generating machine, I predicted by email to some friends a big earthquake for China based on the strange 2 week period of thunder and lightning Tokyo suffered at the time (this effect was claimed to be a side effect of the “machine’s” quake generator). The very next day China got hit by the big one that collapsed all the schools and killed thousands. So what? Exactly. I felt strongly about it but it was 99% more likely it was a coincidence. Not hard to predict a car accident somewhere on a wide stretch of a busy freeway. Let’s see him (or me) predict an earthquake in a rarely hit region. OK, here goes… Antigua… tomorrow.

Agreed. Japan gets hit every day.

BTW there was also another one off Hachijo-jima yesterday, which was 6.6 in Richter scale. It’s probably easy to predict eathquakes in Japan, with the kind of accuracy (or lack thereof) he uses. He is almost always off by a few days to a week, and predicted locations are huge, covering pretty much whole Japan.

Hopefully it will also act to discourage this sort of thing, bearing in mind that there has not been one positive comment. Although if he is just an attention whore, it is not a good idea.
