Wow. Talk about heated debate!

I think the Iranian guy was about to pounce on the Korean dude when he smacked the woman upside the head. Kinda wish he did.

Is it just the clip, or is mainland China + Taiwan noticeably absent from this discussion?

Oh gawd – not this train wreck of a “show”… someone actually saved the video? All copies should have been burned in a bonfire.

And then Beat Takeshi and anyone else associated with the program should have been thrown in as well. This show made Jery Springer look like a Mensa gathering.

Plastic surgery rarely helps anyone, I wonder why the korean guy putted it in such an high place.

No wonder why some Asian-wannabe Canadians and Americans are resort to light-hearted South Korean variety shows over Japanese. Both shows are fine; just that Japanese shows are too faceplam-worthy.

I don’t watch often Japanese TV nor have access to it, so I wonder how many other opportunities there are for foreigners to demonstrate proficiency in Japanese? I know there is a foreigner on one of the morning talk shows (sorry, don’t know the name), and I’ve seen foreigners on NHK programming. In Korea there is nothing this animated, and I’m glad. As “lovely” said, it’s a sad commentary on Japanese entertainment, and also on those foreigners who would behave in such a way on television. If I were proficient enough to use a foreign language in a foreign country, I would hope I’d have enough decency to put it to better use.

Just to put subbing in general, it is rarer to find a program/Japanese movie subbed in Japanese than it is to find one in English in the states. That’s been from my perspective. It’s hard to do strict “shadowing” there (takes a little more effort involved, but yeah).

I’ve seen some other foreigner panel shows and they were all tame (talking about living in Japan and Japanese culture usually) compared to this one. That was crazy.

As far as know from my Japanese penpal, “Koko ga Hendayo, Nihonjin” is really beyond the general Japanese ethics of TV broadcasting. It’s strange that this show had been on for several years, even for Japanese.

Brian, just remember that this was a Beat Takeshi-produced show. When it started, Beat made a lot of noise about how this would give foreigners a chance to be heard, have frank discussions about Japan, discrimination, integration etc. I think the first episode actually pretty much managed to stick to that.

After that, it was pure Beat Takeshi. The show went the way of basically everything else he’s ever been involved in – Television Tackle, the “paranormal specials” he does… basically they all degenerate into really unlikable people screaming at and insulting each other. Beat apparently thinks it is not a “debate” without lots of pie-throwing.

You could say it is a sign of the sad state of Japanese TV, but then again the Europeans seem to love anything Beat does, so I’m not sure where that leaves the rest of us.

I did like his 万物創世記 series though. Although that too might have degenerated – I forget when I stopped watching it even semi-regularly.

That’s because South Korean TV outlets experienced many political and social “controversies” and outraged many citizens in the past based sketchy broadcasting. They know ways how to reduce the controversies compare to Japan. OTOH Japan is experiencing this very recently.

The good news is that Japanese TV outlets are slowly improving.

We used to call this the Japanese Jerry Springer Show, no one would admit to liking it, but everyone watched it when it came on, as watching these guys go at it with each other in Japanese made for a bit of schadenfreud. Most of the participants seemed to want to out do the others for air time and the shot of maybe just perhaps being discovered and getting to leave the ranks of Eikawa behind them. It was good entertainment and just that.

Oh dear. I think those South Korean people are giving me more bad impression now. They really love plastic surgery that much huh? What’s wrong with being ugly/plain-looking anyway? I really don’t understand their mindset.

Takeshi’s movies are good but not his TV shows. His films are nicely done not like this cheap tabloid trash stuff which you also see on American TV.

While I do find some of the comedians to be hillarious and some shows are very funny.

The state of Japanese coorporate TV as a whole is not good. There are some good shows every now and then but for the most part there are lots of no brainer trashy entertainment.

What I miss is actually seeing proper debating shows. TV Tackle always ends up in people just yelling at each other. There is no political debate in Japan. It is non existent. All the news conferences you see from the Diet with politicians is all prearranged.

Foreigners complaining about Japan and Japanese complaining about foreigners is an interesting issue and could have been a good idea but when it comes to some loser yelling on TV that Japanese women are ugly, Japanese men are.. it’s not very funny anymore.

When that said, plenty of trashy European TV shows too. All these reality shows for instance however since there are a couple of state television channels I find they tend to have a lot of the times better shows that private owned once.

Argh I’m so disgusted by those Korean men. They are so ugly themselves yet they have this ridiculous sense of entitlement. Since Korean men are so notorious for that so I have a feeling that’s how Korean society is like in general. The men are total misogynist with no respect for women (who’re ‘trophies’ and must be desirable objects to pleasure men, even ugly pigs like those on the show).

I’ve seen many Korean men who are NOT misogynists. To me, WASP men are worse than those Korean men.

Having lived in Japan and playing on going back..and knowing alot of koreans I have seen a higher ratio of beautiful Japanese girls than I have korean even with the surgery….not being rude or bias…also…both races are mongoloid.
