A weird English commercial for Tokyo Summer Land:

The commercial doesn’t show footage of the actual water park – maybe because they don’t want people to realize just how crowded it gets?

If bear grylls wants a REAL challenge, he should try and go into that insanely crowded wave pool.

I was watching TV Asahi the other day and one of their morning show guys was there when the park was still closed. Without throngs of people(in thongs) the park actually looks pretty damn sweet. The dump bucket actually is that effin’ enormous too – it nearly took a grown man off his feet. Sadly, it doesn’t talk and say witty puns like “Otsukare Summa!”

Also, they’re extremely stereotypical and ignorant. From their website:

“Management strictly prohibits the entry of persons affiliated with crime syndicates and persons with tattoos (including non-permanent body stickers and body paint) into Tokyo Summerland. People found ignoring this rule will be asked to leave. Please note that admission fees are non-refundable.”

On my first trip to Japan, I was fortunate enough to be invited to a hot spring. The first thing the staff asked when they saw me was if I had any tattoos; they even pointed to a sign stating that I would not be allowed in if I had any. Fortunately, my six hour car trip was not wasted as I have no tattoos. Still, the whole thing bothered me as I have always wanted to get inked. I started getting upset when I was told that this rule applies in other places as well, and it is usually due to the rep of the yakuza. I thought there is no way I could be confused for a member of the yakuza, but I guess in order to be fair, they need to prohibit everyone that fits the qualification.
