Decline in Japanese tourists visiting Italy

July 22nd, 2009 by James

The Asahi Shimbun recently had an article up about the dropping number of Japanese tourists visiting Italy:

Italy

About 10 years ago, there were roughly 2 million Japanese tourists visiting Italy each year. That number has since dropped to about 1 million tourists a year. This year’s peak tourist season saw half as many Japanese tourists as last year, and the expensive Euro and fears over swine flu cited as major reasons for the drop. Italy’s level of service, which is low by Japanese standards, is also provided as one of the the decline.

Compared to Japan most countries have a low standard of service. JAPAN ROCKS!

I’m reminded of that article I read a few weeks ago, I think here, where the Italian restaurant was shut down for overcharging Japanese tourists. I wonder if that had anything to do with it?

Super Mario: you work in the videogame business so it’s not your problem but in Italy there are between 1,5 and 2 millions of people working in the tourism industry.

I’m pretty sure they will miss 1 million of Japanese tourists…

Italy has a low standard of service, by anyone’s standard. I have never been to another country where service people expect to get paid for doing nothing.

The amount of money more than the setting seems to be
demanded from a Japanese tourist by a sightseeing spot
all over the world.

I come not to have a mind to go on a trip to the sight
-seeing spot only by it.

Am I too nervous?I do not want to go to the sightseeing
spot where an insincere person exists. Even if it is co
-mparison Japan.
