Fans flock to see Tokyo’s giant Gundam

The 1:1 scale Gundam mobile suit officially went on display in the Odaiba area of Tokyo over the weekend, and the “Mezamashi TV” morning news show was there to interview some fans (this video has partially translated into English):
In the video you’ll find:
- a cosplayer couple
- a little kid dressed like Char
- a dude who built his own Zaku
- Gundam-obsessed photographers
- a hotel room with a perfect view of the giant mobile suit
And in case you missed it, here’s a high quality video of the giant Gundam from the Asahi Shimbun:
Sankei also has a pretty awesome photograph page.

I guess I should be glad I went to see it and take photos before the crowds really started arriving as I can see in the clip
They should start a rumour that it’s real and it’s going to destroy all the NK missile launchers.
or maybe its a distraction to all Japanese and NK is invading them secretly…
DESTROY THE STATUE!!!
lmao jokes
Is there any possible overseas tour where they build the Gundam statue maybe in the US or Europe?
Is this going to be permanent Gundam status?
No, it’s going to be up until the end of August.
But it’s made so that it can be assembled and disassembled easily, so it’s bound to pop up at another event locale later on.
Holy Cow. That is awesome. Now if they can make it fully functional.
I saw this robot a few days ago, and both my girlfriend (Japanese) and I were very disappointed. The head moves back and forth and it vents smoke. If you drape a Santa Claus costume over it, no one would know the difference or be that impressed either.
I totally understand the fans though, if this was a statue of Voltron, I might be a little more amazed and happy. I think they should say the statue was built by the USA or China, which is why it doesn’t at least move its arms or crouch or even shoot laser beams!!
If it could shoot a rocket and blow up a boat… now that would have been AWESOME.
