Leeches invade Atsugi

Atsugi City in Kanagawa Prefecture has got itself a leech problem! Here’s a partially-translated news report about the leech invasion (with lots of dramatic music):
It is believed that deer and wild boar brought the leeches down from the mountains, so the city is in the process of erecting barriers to keep wild animals out. They have also been cutting down trees near pathways in leech-prone areas so that the creatures cannot enjoy the shade.

The comparison of the leech before and after it had left the man’s arm was fascinating. And disgusting. But mostly fascinating.
Only Japanese can come up with a plan to cut down trees to get rid leeches.
Um…cutting tree’s to get rid of pests is not exactly new or an idea that originated in Japan…
Which pest? Leeches are disgusting but they are not dangerous.
perfect unlimited supplies to fish for walleyes. XD
I used to live in Atsugi. I knew the place sucked but I just never knew that it was literally true!
I went hiking in the hills of Gunma near Shima Onsen on time, and there was a sign that said “Beware of Yamabiru.” I was like, “WTF is a yamabiru?!” After the hike, I was thinking about it and thought, “Maybe it is some kind of bug.” When I took off my shoes, that’s when I noticed it!!! A fucking leach.
Like the guy said, people with poor physical health might have issues, but if you are healthy, you probably don’t have anything to worry about. They don’t drink often enough to carry blood based diseases.
But still gross. One interesting this is that the bite mark looks like the inside of the Mercedes logo. But boy does it bleed…
