Japanese-born kid (“whale muncher”) nearly beaten to death by bullies in New Zealand

The above photo shows the injuries sustained by Ryotaro Wright, a Japanese-born New Zealander who was nearly beaten to death by bullies:
The teen, Japanese-born Ryotaro Wright, needed emergency brain surgery in Waikato Hospital after the attack at Forest View High School in Tokoroa this week. Doctors say he was close to death.
Four students have been suspended and police are investigating.
Ryotaro’s father Llewellyn said yesterday his son had been racially abused by four students over the past few weeks, including being called “whale muncher“.
Hopefully those that committed this violent crime will be arrested and thrown in jail.

Poor boy, something is wrong when you value more the life of some whales over the life a human being. Surely it is due to a climate against Japanese in NZ, due to the whales slaughter, but it can’t explains such acts, they would have bullied anybody different than them with any excuse, they are fundamentally poor human being.

This is what happens when Paul Watson and company tie their anti-whaling ideology to anti-Japanese racism. It’s quite obvious that this is related. Who ever heard of people hurting other people for supposedly eating whale? I know they are high school kids, but this is insane.
Lock those kids up. That’s attempted murder.

This is so low! Just because he’s Japanese doesn’t mean he supports the whaling, most Japanese don’t even support it :/

Was the kid being picked on mainly because of the anti-whaling hysteria, or was that just one of the slurs that were thrown at him in being picked on?
Bullying ’second highest in world’

Seeing this article, I tend to think it was the latter, though the former case would be more easier to blame it on the eco-terrorists.

Why are they not in custody, This is attempted murder / manslaughter at the very least.
This is a hate crime. How is this poor kid ever going to feel safe again? So sad.

Poor guy.
This is a good example of real discrimination. I hope this means all the idiots that post on here about the “discrimination” they face in Japan will have second thoughts.
I don’t think they abused him because Japanese people eat whale, it was more likely that they are just racist and the “whale muncher” slur was one of many slurs that they used.

Yes, the only discrimination that counts is being beaten half to death. :-p
There is all kinds of discrimination. This was a horrible thing, no doubt, but that doesn’t mean all other sorts of discrimination are okay because no one almost dies.
By your logic, we should put up with anything that is done to us, so long as we aren’t nearly killed.

That’s not what I meant at all.
My comments were aimed at people who scream “discrmination!!” over minor things such as police asking to take a look at their Alien Card. These people devalue the true meaning of discrimination.

Poor kid. And I agree wholeheartedly that whoever did this didn’t do it because they’re whale lovers. Just any reason will do when you’re bullies looking for a reason to attack someone. Racists don’t need good reasons.

I hope the bastards that did this rot in jail.

The anti-whaling people should take some responsibility.

I agree with helical and Eddie. This was racially motivated, and “whale muncher” was just another insult to throw at the poor kid.
That having been said, I don’t hold Paul Watson and his anti-whaling people responsible. I personally don’t like them, but I don’t think they’re racist at all. They’re targeting the Japanese because the Japanese are whaling. Call me when you hear “Jap” and “Nip” on their show. You won’t. Short of that, there isn’t even any subtle anti-Japanese racism on the show.
What really staggers me is that the students have been suspended but nobody has been arrested.

No, it says it right there in the quotation. He was born in Japan.
“It complains to the action of the country, and money is
gotten from the assentor.”
After the Anglo-Saxon began to have thought about such
business to joke, all over the world began to mimic it.
There might have been such business more if the Internet
was not widespread yet.

I can’t believe this, this is outrageous. I feel ashamed to be in the same country as those idiots, I really want to see a followup on this to see how badly these hooligans get punished.
Anyone, Japanese or not, who is bullied should be able to rest easy knowing that the law will not tolerate this kind of behaviour.

Wonder why the Anti-Asian sentiment is so filled-up in NZ. Couldn’t be just Whale thing.
I went to schools in US, UK and NZ, and NZ is the only country where I was thrown a bottle of water just walking the street. And, beleive me, that was the loveliest of all I heard and saw other Asian students, particulary Chinese experienced in NZ life. Is it NZ’S education or are they just genetically sadistic?

really? I’ve been around too and I had the best experience in NZ. Guess you were very unlucky. Because I wouldn’t judge a country based on you getting a bottle of water thrown at. That would be like judging a boy because the country of his birth hunt/eats whales. NZ is VERY sensitive when it comes to animal rights I’m afraid.
