I wonder if kids who use this training device will crap themselves whenever they hear the music… sort of like Manchurian candidates of poop.

I sense a long-term evil plot.

Shimajiro is a brilliant early learning subscription pack for young children. It’s not all about poo, they cover loads of stuff like friendship, food and digestion. My daughter had it as a present from her Japanese grandmother and it was an excellent learning tool. Published by Benesse I think.

lol, I love the commetn above. It is amazing how many toilet books and videos are out there. Even everyday on NHK in the morning there is a short episode of instruction, usually on inai nai baa! ( I have a toddler so I get to see alot of these programs) the ones that are interesting are the monthly magazines for toddlers that have stickers of “pee” and “poo” with cute faces on the feces, then the kid has to stick it in the “proper” place. . .more fun to stick the stickers elsewhere though. Do these work? maybe for a few people but most of the Japanese mothers I know do not use books or videos for instruction.

They certainly helped my son, simply by watching Shimajiro he became toilet trained within a few weeks. He totally bypassed the potty stage so he could be just like Shimajiro-kun. Also we didn’t even have the subbed version or know any Japanese.

Btw, I don’t think they should be teaching kids to strain while taking a dump. Didn’t Japan have one of the highest rates of hemorrhoids?
