“The Reader” in Japan

June 19th, 2009 by James

“The Reader” first started showing at theaters in the UK half a year ago, and over 30 countries have released the film since, with the DVD already released in a few markets. Here in Japan, it’s a “new” movie that will hit theaters today.

In case you’re wondering, here’s how it’s being advertised on Japanese TV:

I guess the Weinstien brother couldn’t find a distributor for a long ass time. Well this kind of validates that fact that those two pudgy brothers are royally screwed.

If you’re a pretentious snob, you’ll probably like this film. Otherwise most people will call it over complicated drivel. Save your money and wait until your wife rents it on DVD.

Or you could just read the “famous” book, which this movie is based on. ;)

Since it’s a German book, I had to read it in school. It was so-so. I didn’t see the movie yet.
It funny to see that not only German movie companies are giving foreign film differnt names. “愛を読む人”? Where does that come from??

nothing about the war, it’s all about the love…yeap, that’s what this movie is all about.
