Sperm whale returns to the open ocean

Instead of remaining in the shallows and dying, the sperm whale that had been hanging out along the coast of Wakayama Prefecture unexpectedly returned to the open ocean today:

I don’t think we give them enough credit. I think the whales probably head to shallows for recovery from an injury or something. And if they get better, they head out to sea. If they don’t, they die of infection or complications from the injury.

This is just a hunch, but I think they are smarter than we are giving them credit here.
