i see funny japanese in western countries too.
some people in western countries think kanji looks cool hu?
but they dont know it’s meanings….

so..

one that i found and thought funny was a tattoo “何組でも” on a man’s hand in the us…

so not only Engrish, some use of japanese in western countires are also funny.

I agree with you there. One would think that with all of the natural English speakers wandering around Japan, some businesses would care enough to throw a few yen our way to check their copy from time to time.

Loft had a nice (if a bit overkill with the endless looping) Mother’s Day jingle playing in the card section.

My favourite was “Happy Mather’s Day!” seen in a department store in Kichijoji.

Maybe it was aimed at mothers that love math.

Thanks but duh it is not. Great majority of great Engrish are Engrish no matter how you look at it, in any context, disjointed phrases, grammatical errors and the like that simply don’t make sense. I personally think this doesn’t qualify given in context. But hell, that’s just me.

I think some Engrish we encounter are simply misinterpreted or read out of context. I’m pretty sure they were trying to showcase some lovely Mickey Mouse-shaped chocolates, polo shirt and towels suggesting we purchase them as presents as a “thank you for your mother” for Mother’s Day.

But yeah.. I just can’t see why the Japanese feel the necessity to write things in English all the time when a simple Japanese phrase would have been sufficiently elegant for this display.
