TOKYO INTERNATIONAL PLAYERS PRESENTS LIONEL BART’S “OLIVER!”

    With a cast of 65
    Directed by Lou McLeod
    Musical Director: Katherine Cash
    Choral Director: Alice Ploss

May 14-17, 2009 at the Sun Mall Theater in Shinjuku.

This spring, fall in love (again!) with the musical “Oliver!”

The beloved Lionel Bart stage adaptation follows Charles Dickens’ orphan Oliver Twist on a journey through London. Along the way, Oliver meets the cheeky Artful Dodger and falls in with Fagin’s motley gang of street urchins.

With its many twists and turns, the story is nothing short of captivating — and the songs will have you tapping your feet and singing along.

“Oom Pah Pah”, “Food Glorious, Food”, and “Pick a Pocket or Two” are just a few of the tunes that have made “Oliver!” one of the most successful musicals of the last 50 years. With a cast of 65, “Oliver!” is the largest production in TIP’s 112-year history, and will be supporting Wakabaruyo Children’s Home.

“Oliver! is one of those shows I’ve known since I was a child,” says director Lou McLeod. “By the age of six, I would march around the house singing the songs at the top of my lungs. I believe it was at this point my mother decided to get me into theatre, or suffer the consequences.”

“At first, I looked at this production as an opportunity to help students learn about theatre. We started working with the students around October last year, and the journey since then has been thrilling for all of us! I hope you enjoy the experience of this show as much as we did creating it!”

    Show times for “Oliver!” are:

    May 14: 7pm
    May 15: 7pm
    May 16: 1pm
    May 16: 7pm
    May 17: 1pm (sold out)
    May 17: 7pm

A Director’s talk will be given after the 1pm show on May 16.
