Velo taxis in Japan
If you’ve been around major tourist areas in Japan recently, you’ve probably seen a few Velo Taxis. Here’s a Japanese TV news report about them (warning, contains breast-grabbing child):
The Velo Taxis are being marketed as a fun and environmentally-friendly mode of transport for tourists – when you get your receipt at the end of a trip, the amount of CO2 you “saved” by not taking an automobile is included.
Taxi drivers and bus drivers interviewed expressed concerns about the slow speed of the Velo taxis, which can cause traffic jams or even be a safety threat.
