Blue Train ending service

JR is ending service for its “Blue Train” sleeper trains this month. Here’s a video of a special event held yesterday for rail fains:

That’s too bad! The news lady said they are shutting it down siting the fact that most people take the Shinkansen or airlines from Tokyo to Kyushu. I think they are slowly phasing them all out.

Actually I took this train once…and swore I will never, ever, take a night train in Japan,

I like night buses, they are cheap and you can actually sleep.

But night trains are awful. A sharp light is on during the whole night, there are more people than seats in the trains, it just looked like an developped country train to me.

Yet, blue trainb are cheap. They cost almost half of a night bus trip, which, itself, costs almost half of a shinkansen trip….
