Australian authorities crack down on Sea Shepherd
For years, the radical animal rights group Sea Shepherd has been able to freely use Australian ports in between its violent missions against Japanese whaling vessels. However, the situation seems to have changed:
Australian Federal Police searched the antiwhaling ship of the U.S.-based conservation group Sea Shepherd and seized videos and other documents from the vessel, officials and the ship’s captain said Saturday.
Australian Federal Police said the search, conducted at the request of Japanese government authorities, was carried out shortly after the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society’s flagship returned to the southern Australian port of Hobart on Friday.
Some of the videos seized may contain information about the alleged ramming of a Japanese whaling vessel last month.
