Perhaps our extraterrestrial friends are going green. Maybe they created a winged, extremely small, fuel efficient, pedal powered UFO.

"<i>Nirasawa and Yaoi are the figures that most Japanese people take with a grain of salt and/or for entertainment: they are known as “researchers” of UFO and occult phenomena</i>.

That's true. When they, especially Yaoi Jun-ichi, appeared on the show, almost all Japanese would have realized that it was not a news report but a report for entertainment. Those who don't know the cultural backgroud may never understand it though.

Nirasawa and Yaoi are the figures that most Japanese people take with a grain of salt and/or for entertainment: they are known as "researchers" of UFO and occult phenomena.

If Mainichi translates, for instance, "sex and love" or "bizarre "categories of the Sun every week, saying these are news from England, English bloggers might as well doubt the integrity of Mainichi and criticize it as, say, a pervert.

You might criticize someone for applying the double standard when the same person apply one standard while applying less strict standard to a similar situation.
Japan is not the homogeneous entity.
If Japanese people who criticized WaiWai didn't criticize the equivalent of waiwai in the same way, they hold double standards. But here we lack the equivalent.

might be fairer to say "Always wonder if it’s Japanese people with good English but no sense for what sarcasm is or if it is foreigners with poor Japanese and poor sense for what sarcasm is"

From the reader's point of view, I think this site is a great way to quickly access interesting, foreigner-oriented, or just plain weird news about Japan. Often exposing the bias [frequently against gaijin and pro-government] and just plain stupidity/laziness [as in this case] of the Japanese media.

Although reading the comments is fun, too, as lots of people seem to misread things and start futile arguments based on their misreading. Silly.

I don't recall writing anything on this blog claiming that it is a work of journalism, so I don't see why you think it should be compared to the same standard as a TV network that employs professional journalists to create news programs.

So the source of this idiocy is The Sun - a British newspaper. I wonder what Aleisha thought of it when she took her bra off for page 3.
