That’s true. When they, especially Yaoi Jun-ichi, appeared on the show, almost all Japanese would have realized that it was not a news report but a report for entertainment. Those who don’t know the cultural backgroud may never understand it though.

If Mainichi translates, for instance, “sex and love” or “bizarre “categories of the Sun every week, saying these are news from England, English bloggers might as well doubt the integrity of Mainichi and criticize it as, say, a pervert.

You might criticize someone for applying the double standard when the same person apply one standard while applying less strict standard to a similar situation.
Japan is not the homogeneous entity.
If Japanese people who criticized WaiWai didn’t criticize the equivalent of waiwai in the same way, they hold double standards. But here we lack the equivalent.

Although reading the comments is fun, too, as lots of people seem to misread things and start futile arguments based on their misreading. Silly.

Always wonder if it’s Japanese people with good English but no sense for what sarcasm is.
