Wow I never thought that whales would be that cheap and…appetizing? Do you still get the good stuff from fish or not since its not a fish? XD

Too right it’s an awesome deal – it costs a shed load of fuel oil and trouble with the IWC to go harpoon those whales and render them into nostalgic tasting bacon-like bits…

Forget all of the political arguments about whether to eat whale meat or not. I just won’t touch the thing since it’s so high in Mercury:

I also read a different news article where they tested ppl living in a Japanese fishing village that consumed alot of whale meat in their diets. i think it mentioned blood mercury levels that were 50 times higher than what was considered safe.

It seems to be very delicious. No, it is actually very delicious.
Alaskan eats the seal.
The Australian is eating the dugong and the kangaroo.
Korean is eating the dog and the whale.
Chinese is eating anything excluding the table.
Are there any problems?

I doubt whale meat is less healthy than all the junk food we stuff ourselves silly with.

A Health Canada study released this month points to high levels of cadmium and mercury in many of the animals upon which traditional Inuit depend for sustenance. But despite the toxins, nutritional experts and Health Canada agree: a steady diet of meats and fats from the ringed seal and beluga whale still does more good than harm. “The nutritional value of our country foods probably overrides the danger of the pollutants that are in them,” Day said in a phone interview from Inuvik, about 2,000 meters northwest of Edmonton. “If would take a lot of proof that it is harming us before we would give up our way of life, our way of eating.”

A western-based diet – which includes everything form fast food to the standard Christmas meal – might be worse for the Inuit than eating toxin-laced country food.

“What was more important was the concern about malnutrition from foods imported form the West, because it’s not as nutritious as whales and seals,” said Leslie Whitby of Indian and Northern Affairs. Rather than have the Inuit eat food that would pose a known health risk, it made more sense to let them maintain their traditional diets, Whitby said.

A little whale bacon every now and then does not do more damage than eating at Mc Donalds or a chocolate bar or a pint of beer. The thought of thinking how dangerous whale meat is while eating it probbaly creates stress which is worse for your health than the whale meat you eat. Foods that are stange and things that are new makes people very suspicious and scared you know.
