There’s something really annoying about people trying to entertain everyone at a table with pointless party banter. I guess all the parties and talk show appearances have made Downey Jr. a master of small talk.

I don’t know if I should be horrified or impressed that Japanese immigration fucks with Robert Downey Jr because of his long arrest record. On the one hand it’s nice to know someone is checking out visitors, but on the other hand he’s literally in & out of the country so fast, what difference does it make if he’s spent time in prison?

It seems to me that half the room was giggling at his lame story just to appease the almighty Robert Downey Jr. Brad Pitt is actually entertaining, but I was falling asleep listening to Robo there.

I agree with Pitt, the best part of Japan is the toilet.

As for Downey, he gets paid no matter what so yeah, he probably had more fun sitting with a moron from immigration than being hassled by a crowd of wanna be’s.

A criminal who served his time and so theoretically should have paid his “debt to society.” Clearly this idea is a farce, however.

He paid his debt to his society. While he may never have had a “debt” to “owe” to Japanese society, that doesn’t mean he has to be let in to (potentially) create one.

I am not sure I agree with the idea that one can (repeatedly, in R.D.Jr’s case) make mistakes, serve time and go right back to being a normal member of society as if they never did anything wrong. R.D.Jr. made some bad choices – and made the same ones several times over. Since most people manage to look at those options and say “no” the first time, and many others may say “OK” once, learn their lesson and never do the same dumb thing again, I would say he has a serious judgement problem. His learning curve was a flat line for a very long time, and even listening to him in this video he sounds like someone who no longer does those things not because he thinks they are “bad”, but because he thinks getting caught doing them is bad. He’s the type of guy I would not give a job to if he came to me looking for work. So I have no problem with immigration giving him the 5th degree.

I love to laugh, and I love good stories. This video made me sad because I didn’t get to do the former because of a complete lack of the latter. I kept wanting to join in with the rest of the sycophantic laughter (WTF was up with Anne Hathaway?!?), but I kept slipping into a coma instead. Oh, well. Easy come, easy go. “Iron Man” was good, tho’.
