Calculator speed freaks

A video from TBS news showing an exam that measures the speed and accuracy of calculator use:


263 people of all ages took part in the highest level of the national competition. As you can see, nobody in the room seemed to be slacking off.

In case you are wondering about the kind of person who takes such an exam, here’s an example:

The woman in the 2nd video can do mental arithmetic by imagining an abacus ! And she can use a calculator at mach speed left or right handed.

I wonder if the numbers add up correctly in the second video. I hope she at least briefly looks at the display to check before she enters the next number.

I’d say it’s not as important to do a job fast as it is to do it right. :)

Sadly, with that much talent, she could be replaced very easily with a high speed scanner and a $100 piece of software.
