Japanese women like to play with swords

January 15th, 2009 by James

Fuji TV news reports on how sword fighting classes are becoming popular among young women in Japan:

Their reporter joins one of the 2-hour classes to investigate. The class starts with some demonstration fights. After practicing basic movements, swords are passed out to the students so they can try out some techniques. At the end of the lesson, studen use what they learned to act out a sword battle scene.

Apparently it’s a good workout and helps improve posture. Will this be the “Billy’s Bootcamp” of 2009?

Remember not to marry these kind of women, you might wake up missing something.

Correction: If you marry one, make sure she isn’t crazy and for the love of god, don’t make her mad.

I’d like to join them! I’d even pose as one of the guys getting chopped up.

Seriously, even though I don’t like weapons at all, sword do fascinate me, especially japanese swords.

One day I’d like to own a real, well-crafted and expensive katakana – and then I’d probably use it to chop wood. ^^

^sorry to correct you, but “katakana” is a set of japanese writing system. I think you mean is Katana. a japanese long sword.
and use it to cut tatami mats in pieces, instead, it’s way more fun. but i get ur jokes.

Japanese sword fighting seems really fun, and women doing kendo and other sword fighting are really HOT! 0_0 :D

Why the hell do the learners have real swords in their hands. Do you know how f’ing dangerous that is. I am in Ninjutsu and we learn sword play (in order to outsmart samurai sword play like shown here, and take advantage of the openings) but we never get to touch a real sword until probably about two years in, and then the grandmaster has to deem that you show good control and you aren’t a latent psychopath waiting to lay waste to your colleagues via Japanese steel. Even then, in regular practice we would even after all that, still use boken (wood swords) because we only use steel in exercises to experience how much force it takes to go through something. So yeah, long story short I find it crazy that they have real katana and yes I am also a little jealous. I have wanted one for YEARS!!!

I believe those are not real katanas. I mean, not sharpned ones. they are Iaito’s. Katanas that won;t cut…:)..or maybe i think they do….but with a bit of more force implied :)
