Finally, some foreigners in Japan doing something idiotic but not offensive to the Japanese. Good to see some of the people in background getting a kick out of it and a well done video. :) Good work guys!

But why do some foreigners in Japan think that it’s OK to do idiotic things ?

notice how in the beginning no one gawked or even minded that a middle aged white was roaming the streets half naked.. It was only when the two of them met up that people actually stopped to look (and after pulling their phones on them :P )

Great vid..

I think the (a?) reason for this might be the famed Japanese “SEP” (read your Douglas Adams, especially “Life, the Universe and Everything”). Once the show started, it was clear this was something that was supposed to be looked at, and so people looked.

You’d think by now with all of these dancing-trumpet-soccer robots that we’d also have some SEP Field technology mass produced by Panasonic. Guess we’ll have to wait till Ford Prefect takes over as CEO?

Excellent! This is the kind of public comedy performance I can get behind, and the crowd looked like they were enjoying the show.

I liked the old dude with the hat being the referee – that looked unscripted. Of things white boys can do half-naked in public in Japan, this was better than many, but a little more effort would help – sumo is never done in the full kesho-mawashi ‘apron’ for one thing. They should have had the courage of their convictions and not worn underpants/shorts. And a ittle more overall dignity, as if this were a genuine tournament between two yokozuna and not a street performance, would be nice – all those exaggerated gestures reminded me of Mitoizumi. The best comedy is played straight.

ROTFL, this is great. Next, they should do a 「テレビショッピング」 type of deal. Another, funny, but not offensive thing.

It seems I spoke too soon. Apparently Dave Eastgate is some kind of comedian from Australia (albeit that he is a complete unknown downunder). So now I understand that this was not merely your usual random exhibitionist gaijin stupidity. It’s merely comedian stupidity. I forgive Dave since he’s obviously just trying to make a living. Good luck mate !

I loved it! I hope they do some more in the future. Looks like the audience was really enjoying it, too.

I’d be interested in doing something similar if I wasn’t built like a flagpole :-(

We do? The only time I’ve ever seen or heard that phrase is on a t-shirt made by a foreigner being worn on a foreigner because they thought it was clever.
