The best fukubukuro I saw this year was in Mister Donuts. 1000 Yen scored us 10 free donuts (worth the price already) PLUS an assortment of Mister Donuts goods, stuff that would have taken hundreds of points to collect. What a deal!

I never understood lucky bags. I’m sorry but these women are idiots. Who on earth buys a bag full of clothes that you don’t know the exact size of, and you don’t know what kind of style it is. All because its on a discount? Clothing sales in Japan were always kind of a big joke to me. I remember going to the Zara in Nagoya, and women going crazy cause they were offering a 20% discount. Like that was some holy grail.

Lucky bags = Just plain stupid

It depends on the bag. Some offer size information, others are one-size-fits-all items like coats. I bought one such bag for my wife this weekend and she got an assortment of clothes at 1/5 the usual price. She’s giddy about the whole thing.

Meanwhile, her sister bought one on New Year’s Day and found an…”unusual” looking top, to say the least. Hope there was something else in that bag!
