JLPT 2008
![]()
Today, the 2008 Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) will be held all over the world. Good luck to all our readers who will be taking the test!
If you live in Japan and you missed this year’s test, visit this page for details on how to sign up for next year’s test. Apparently the test will be changing to a new more difficult format in 2010, so study and take it in 2009 while it’s still in its old form! Check out our JLPT listening practice and JLPT reading/kanji practice posts for links to study resources.
Update [8:00PM Japan Time on the 7th]: Scans of the test questions have already appeared on Chinese web forums! I really hope that the test being conducted today in the United States is different, because otherwise some of those about to take the test may have already read the questions on the net….. (Note: In the name of fairness, the original update did not contain the link to the answers. I added it on the 8th.)

Looks like it will be easier to me. Not sure what makes this format more difficult apart from the level 1 test being designed for more advanced students.
Good luck to everyone taking the test today!
Hooray, just back from the level 4. Let’s celebrate!
I have always planned on taking it once I get better, though I’m still climbing my way to JLPT4 right now. I never realized it was only held one day each year everywhere. I thought it was something you could just take at any point. My brainpower has officially been 1-upped!
WOo! Going to take it in London today!! Hope the God of 2kyuu will go easy on me!
Back from the level 3 test in 市川 I think it was pretty easy, at least I’m pretty sure I passed
Dear God — I took level one 20 years ago and I still get heart palpitations just thinking about it. Thanks for the reminder…
Took 1kyuu in Osaka today. It had its easy parts and its hard parts…
I took the jlpt 4 in Singapore today… am a lil nervous on how I may fare. Anyone has any clue when results will be out or when the answers are released? Do let me know…Thanks a zillion!
They’re usually out by the end of March, mailed to your house
it takes that long? do they correct/ screen all test in one place?
Take a look into that green boolet, you most likely received when you registered yourself. It says you will be informed of your results around March next year.
In Japan they said the results will be out in mid February. Not sure about overseas.
I seem to remember that I got the results in March. By that time I’d almost forgotten taking the test…
Just came back home after completing 4-kyu. It wasnt really hard and i think i did ok ^ ^. I feel very content now that i might have an actual document that not only signifies my japanese ability, but also the possibilities it offers in the future ^ ^. I was wondering how long it would take the result to be mailed tho (-.-)? I took a DELE test once (a spanish proficiency test) and that one took many moons to come. I hope the same doesnt happen with JLPT Orz
I took 2kyuu in Sendai yesterday, I thought the reading passages were tough, but the grammar and vocabulary were pretty easy. The listening was a 50-50 split.
Also, not mentioned in the article is that as of July 2009, you can take 1/2 kyuu a second time. A lot better than waiting an entire year I think.
I did the 4kyuu yesterday and thought I did pretty good. Ok, time to study for 3kyuu!
Does having L4 or even L3 actually mean anything for employers or schools? I was under the distinct impression that anything less than L1 was just for kicks.
level 3 is required by most IT companies that service Japanese clients here in the Philippines. If people have higher than that they get a allowance that starts off as much as an entry level developers basic salary for a month that is exempt from tax. So in some places level 3 is quite beneficial. But i hear that if you are in working Japan level 1 is the only one that matters.
I took 1st kyu sometime ago, but it didn’t really matter to my employers in Japan, so I gave up taking it again. It’s just a waste of time, money and effort.
Probably depends who your employers are, but on the whole, I agree. If you aren’t required to get the certificate, don’t bother.
Bloody hell, the stuff on those forums is pretty hardcore.
I’m going to see how I did!
