JR retires original bullet trains

Crowds of rail fans gathered yesterday at Hakata station to witness the last regular run of a 0 series Shinkansen. The zero series was the first type of train to run along the high speed Tokkaido Shinkansen Line when it opened in 1964, and it is by far the most recognizable of the Japanese bullet trains.
Here’s a video of the event from Fuji TV:
Although this marks the last regular use of a 0 series train, JR will be sending them on three special “Sayonara” Hikari service runs on December 6, 13 and 14.

The first fan, who looks too young to have ever ridden one when it was anything other than the “slow” old local, is not giving “‘otaku’ a good name. I was expecting him to cry out “Leave the O-kei alone!” with his mascara running.
Anyway it’s still one of the best-looking super-speed trains. I hate these new ‘duck-billed’ ones.
Then go take a trip on the Kyushu shinkansen.
Or take the 500, while you still can…
That’s slowly being retired too, unfortunately.
Maybe feeling some attachment to a train is understandable … but jeez, that guy was crying a bit too much.
