Japanese nurse robot Twendy One
Some video from Fuji TV showing off Twendy One, a nurse robot developed by researchers at Waseda University in Tokyo:
Some of the impressive tasks Twendy One can perform include:
- Picking up small items such as straws
- Helping people get out of bed and into a wheel chair
- Giving audio instructions to patients and responding to some requests
- Delivering food trays to patients
Near the end of the segment, they show some video of a different type nurse helper bot that is undergoing trials at a real hospital. The robot, developed by researchers at Keio University, can navigate hospital hallways and avoid obstacles while delivering equipment.

Cool. But using conductive metal tongs to remove toast from an electric toaster is maybe not such a great idea

Why doesn’t it just use its hands?! Surely they are tough enough to resist the heat of some toast.
… but then again, I think a lot of people here like to use tongs on toast instead of just grabbing it. Seems silly to me.
