November 2nd, 2008 by James

At many stores in Japan, the end of Halloween marks the beginning of the Christmas season. Here’s a video of the Christmas that went up yesterday at the main Mitsukoshi department store in Tokyo:

Talk about jumping the gun. I’m not sure about what sort of schedule there is in other Christmas-celebrating countries, but in the States people put up their decorations after Thanksgiving (since it just happens to be approx. 1-month before Christmas).

Well Japan doesn’t celebrate American Thanksgiving (yet) so it’s a clear straight shot to Christmas once the newly imported Halloween event is over.

Well, Nov. 24th this year looks to be Labor Day in Japan. Seems like the perfect vacation day to do some Christmas decoration labor!

let`s see – halloween was the day before yesterday and the christmas stuff was out – maybe 3 weeks ago. i am glad we celebrate thanksgiving in our household. otherwise i would go out of my mind with christmas stuff around the house for two+ months. not that i don`t start thinking about it.

They don’t celebrate Christmas, its X-mas in japan. A big day for retailers.

I like the Christmas origami classes-a contemporary combination of tradition and modern:-)
