Familiar Japanese people in New Zealand
A Japanese quiz show recently traveled to a foreign country and asked people on the street to name famous Japanese people. The top ten results were shown and quiz show participants were asked to guess what country it was.
The top ten list was as follows:
- 1. Yoko Ono
- 2. Ken Watanabe
- 3. Akira Kurosawa
- 4. Beat Takeshi
- 5. Junichiro Koizumi
- 6. Hidetoshi Nakata
- 7. Hirohito
- 8. Musashi
- 9. Dengeki Network (Tokyo Shock Boys)
- 10. Ayumi Hamasaki
Since the list included no baseball players, guests concluded that it was not America and the three teams settled on Australia, New Zealand, and Northern Europe. As you already know from the headline of this post, the correct answer was New Zealand!

Yeah I’m pretty sure most of these people were set up. Unless they were asking Japanophiles.
Who the hell know Osamu Tezuka? It’s not a houshold name.
New Zealanders (like me) are more likely to say somethign stupid like Ryu and Ken from street fighter.
