Japanese scammer used fake one million dollar bills

A man has been arrested for using fake one million dollar bills to trick a very gullible woman into paying him 100 million yen:
The 62-year-old man made up a story about an investment fund that would earn thousands of dollars every day. The man claimed he was doing very important work for the U.S. government, which gave him access to one million dollar bills. His target, a 49-year-old woman, fell for the scam and paid him 100 million yen. Apparently she trusted him and was thrilled to later receive a few one million dollar bills. Eventually she discovered that the money was fake because one million dollar bills do not actually exist, and the scam was reported to the police.

Yes, because knowing foreign currency in every country is the norm.
There was a story recently of a Taco Bell cashier calling the cops because he thought the $2 bill the customer was using was fake. The cop showed up and laughed at him.

Maybe the region is an issue. In California, I came across a bunch of $2 bills.
They’re like the 2000 yen bills in Japan. (Except, obviously different in value) But most Japanese tell me they hate when they receive a 2000 yen bill, because they don’t work in vending machines, so you can only spend them in shops.

Greed and gullibility are a bad combination. In the cases of Japanese’s peoples greed costing them big I side with a guy in the US who had this to say about the Nigerian bank e-mail scam: “If these people are so greedy they fall for these scams trying to earn money quickly let them suffer don’t recover the money let their loss be a lesson in greed”

True, but I imagine anyone would still be pissed if this happened to a loved one (like a too-trusting grandmother) and would seek retribution. Greed is certainly a factor but to place all the blame on the victim when you’ve also got a perfectly good lying asshole in the other corner would be foolish.

Is it illegal to make fake bills that don’t resemble real currency?
I know the US laws prohibit color 2-side copies, or copies within 50% of the real size.
If it were me, I’d be making counterfeit stock certifi—

It’s not illegal to make them, but it is illegal to use them as legal tender. Since they aren’t.
