Forty-eight lawmakers visit Yasukuni
Today was the first day of the Yasukuni Shrine’s autumn festival, so 48 lawmakers who are members of the nonpartisan “Let’s visit Yasukuni Shrine” group made a visit:
Prime Minister Aso did not visit, nor did any of his cabinet ministers.
Interestingly, AFP’s article about today’s visit leaves out a notable piece of information: this year’s festival saw a big drop in the number of lawmakers visiting Yasukuni. Mainichi’s Japanese language article notes that 67 lawmakers visited last autumn, and that some lawmakers may have not visited due to concerns about the upcoming Lower House election.
