FTV reports on a man who had so much trash in front of his house that it blocked a public sidewalk in Gyoda, Saitama Prefecture:

The 79-year-old man had been collecting trash and piling it up in front of his house for years. He had been sent numerous notices from authorities demanding that he clean up the mess, but he had refused to do so. Police lost patience and finally arrested him for obstructing a public sidewalk. (For a more detailed examination of the trash around his house, check out this video)

Every Japanese town I’ve lived in has had at least one trashy house like the one shown in the video. Such houses are known was gomi yashiki (“garbage houses”), and they’re so common that there are even businesses that specialize in helping clean up gomi yashiki. One such company, Gomi Yashiki Buster, has a neat website with before and after photos of some of their work:

Call them up today, before your trash spills out onto the sidewalk and gets you arrested!
