Children’s personal alarms break easily
One often sees Japanese children walking to school with personal safety alarms strapped to their bags. If a child is in a dangerous situation, he or she can activate the device and make a very loud beeping sound to attract help and scare away attackers. It sounds like a good idea, but are the personal alarms durable enough to endure being strapped to an elementary schooler’s bag?
Many of the alarm producers claim that their products can handle being dropped on concrete, but tests have shown otherwise:
The particular alarm shown in the video completely died after being dropped only six times, and it’s not alone. Many other types of alarms failed the same test. Of the types of personal safety alarms tested, only two managed to pass 8 out of 10 tests: a Toshiba buzzer and a Matsushita (Panasonic) Buzzer.
