Plant springs from concrete in Tokyo

FTV reports on a plant that appeared out of a crack in the concrete on a street in Tokyo’s Asakusa district:

Shopkeepers have placed some soil near the plants roots to help it grow, but they claim it originally sprouted from a small crack in the concrete. An expert has identified it as an Indian millet plant.

Yet another hard-hitting news story that is more important than say, something abot a new Prime Minister whose family owns a huge concrete company and is promising to basically give up on desperately needed reforms and go right back to teh old formula of funding huge unneeded construction projects in the countryside to enrich himself, family and friends.

Yes, clearly reporting a human interest story about a plant shows that the media thinks this is more important than reporting about the Prime Minister. Since I posted this video, you can assume that all of the other stories on yesterday’s news had nothing to do with Aso and his policies.

It’s not a criticism of this site, it is a criticism of Japanese media. [Though Western media is not entirely immune from this.]

I am still amazed when the NATIONAL news reports things like simple house fires and rounds it all off with human interest stories.

But a plant growing through a crack? What’s next? A leaky toilet with a stain that looks like Buddha?

I agree with Level3, and it was clear the first time that he was addressing the Japanese media not this site.

James shouldn’t have been so snarky in his response, he comes out the worse for it.

But kudos to James for showing how useless the Japanese media is anyways. That is important too.

And here the sadistic side of me was hoping the plant was kudzu. Oh well, I hope they keep the plant away from businessmen with umbrellas.
