Are you prepared for the next great influenza outbreak?

A Japanese government panel recommends that every household be equipped with 20 to 25 masks per person:
The panel recommended pleated masks and those designed to fit closely to people’s faces. Both kinds are made of unwoven fabric whose fibers are chemically joined. The masks are generally disposable and the panel recommends having seven to 10 in stock so they can be changed daily during the 7-10 day influenza period, and another 16 on hand, on the presumption that people would have to go out in public twice a week over an eight-week period when they could be exposed to the virus.

Yes, but I have often wondered: where are these masks made? Are they manufactured in Japan or China? If there are from China I think I would take my chances and go mask free. When you are wearing these masks you inhale particles of the fabric into your lungs with every breath you take.
Imagine these coming from China and being fabricated with trace amounts of asbestos in in the fabric or some cheap recycled cotton doused in heaven knows what kind of chemicals. Thinking of this has stopped me from wearing ‘kaze masks’ altogether. Eeek.

I have yet to wear a mask… too much urge to start holding people up wild west style. Although, at least onetime, I’d like to wear one somewhere public and “cough up” some fake blood so it soaks through and watch people’s reactions.
