A year has passed since I posted about an alarming NTV news segment about GIANT KILLER HORNETS, and that can only mean one thing: it’s killer hornet season once again!

Earlier this week, TBS and ATV news both aired news reports about giant hornets invading homes. Below are some excerpts, complete with dramatic music and menacing footage of hornets in action.

    Clip 1 (from TBS)

In this clip, we follow Mr. Matsumaru, a hornet extermination expert in Chiba Prefecture. Matsumaru discovers and removes a gigantic hornet nest from the second floor of a house. He later finds another nest on the roof of a building, and is strung through his protective gloves while attempting to spray it. Since Matsumaru is very experienced, he treats himself instead of going to a hospital.

    Clip 2 (from TBS)

In this clip, Matsumaru encounters extra large vespa ducalis hornets that have built a nest inside an old guitar. After getting rid of the guitar nest, he moves on to another nest of hornets. This nest was formed by hornets borrowing under a house, and he has to remove tatami mats and flooring to deal with the infestation.

    Clip 3 (from Asahi)

In this clip an expert explains what you should do if stung by a giant hornet. He tells viewers that you must not try to suck the poison out of your wound, since that could only transfer the poison to your mouth and cause an even worse reaction. He suggests that you instead squeeze the location of the wound to drive the poison out. (The same method used by Matsumaru in clip #1) After applying this method, one should immediately go to a hospital or consult a doctor. Some giant hornets have very powerful poison in their stingers, so be careful!
