North Korean Dokdo stamps

September 18th, 2008 by James

A picture of special North Korean stamps depicting the disputed Liancourt Rocks (Dokdo/Takeshima):

The Dokdo-or-Takeshima blog has noted that the date of the stamps is unknown, and that one of the old maps used on the stamps actually shows an island that is not Dokdo/Takeshima.

In the past, Japan has officially protested similar stamps issued by South Korea, claiming that printing stamps of disputed territories violates the spirit of international cooperation in the Universal Postal Union. There was even a time when Japan would refuse to deliver letters from South Korea that used such stamps.

All I can do is shake my head in astonishment. This complex that South Korea has over these rocks is really something else. I don’t know if I should laugh or be indignified that there are fools masquerading as adult human beings in charge of Seoul.
