Photo: Aya Sugimoto gets naked for PETA

September 18th, 2008 by James

AFP reports that Japanese actress Aya Sugimoto has taken some nude photos for a PETA anti-fur campaign:

Holding a tiny sign reading, “Fur? I’d rather go naked,” Sugimoto posed in the buff before dozens of photographers and television cameras in one of the first Japanese campaigns by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).

“I stopped wearing fur two years ago after I learned how fur products are being produced,” said the actress, who is also a dancer and erotic novelist.

“I want to play a role in the ‘No Fur’ movement and let more people know of the cruel and grim reality for animals,” Sugimoto said. “I don’t mind at all — even if my naked photos are posted all over.”

I dunno – isn’t making people look at a picture of a nude obahan a kind of cruelty? ;-)

It doesn’t seem to make much of an impact seems as most people have seen her naked on more than one occasion before in the past.

It might’ve been better if they chose someone who doesn’t usually strip for the cameras.

She looks super hot for 40 though.

I really wish these celebrities who consider themselves activists for animal rights would show their public support for an organization more reputable than PETA. It’s a worthy cause for those interested but I feel that giving more clout to PETA is ultimately less productive and beneficial to that said cause.

40? Wow. Very hot.

And whether there are more “reputable” organizations than PETA, they are, easily, the most well known, and really the only one with pockets deep enough or the inclination to run these kinds of campaigns, regardless of what other disreputable actions/tactics they may take…

That’s what I’m getting at–if a group of celebrities used their public pull with other organizations it would at least get the organization’s name out into the open. Admittedly, public endorsements won’t garner as much attention as crass publicity stunts (not necessarily this “naked over fur” campaign), but at least the public would be AWARE of the alternatives. Greenpeace doesn’t count, either.

But yeah, she does look quite good for 40–even with some light Photoshop.
