Japanese children using school buses

Kyodo reports that there are over 4,700 school buses in use in Japan, and some 130,000 students at public elementary and junior high schools use them:
More than 40 percent of the boards said they have introduced school buses to protect children from crime and traffic accidents, according to the survey by the Ministry of Education, Culture, sports, Science and Technology.
Thirty-nine percent of the respondents said they use school buses for the convenience of children living in remote areas.
