I do get the impression that if his father wasn’t somewhat well known this would never have aired on its own merits. Personally I think a dancing Stormtrooper in Harajuku contributes more to world happiness than overpriced shoes, however….

But stormtroopers are not smart and intelligent. Useless shots, and hit their heads on doorways. Granted, they’re probably taller than Danny Choo, assuming Choo isn’t taller than Mark Hamil. And you completely misread my post anyway: I said “contributes MORE” than overpriced shoes.

Sounds like he’s done very well for himself and is happy and successful. And it looks like he’s done it with his own ideas and hard work.

You don’t have to like his shtick to admire his accomplishments.

He WAS an inspiration for all otaku until they revealed his dad was Jimmy Choo. It makes sense now on how he was able to do all those things. He could buy all those thing with his daddy’s money right from childhood. I ain’t hating…I thought he was a self-made man since he didn’t mention anything about Jimmy Choo in his site but now we know he was just a spoil rich kid from the beginning. It reminds me of that South Park episode “The List” where the girls made clyde the cutest guy in school because his dad owned a shoe store. Maybe he is popular too because his daddy is Jimmy Choo. What a shame really, he had us all fooled.

If you payed attention, his dad said that he was proud of Danny for never asking for a penny. He made it himself.

I hate to be a hater, and Choo is cool. But come on. It doesn’t even matter if his father says Danny didn’t ask for a penny regarding his current lifestyle.

Can just any kid get a short term gig designing $1000 shoes and probably making “his own” money off it? It’s all about the opportunities and connections, which are worth far more than just cash and a Platinum Visa from Daddy.

Danny Choo has certainly done really cool things, and it’s good he seems to now be self-supporting. But it’s hard to imagine he’d be where he is now without a rich father.

This CNN interview withstanding, since no profiles of Danny have ever mentioned his father, it’s hard to see what sort of fatherly “connections” he’s using. If you want to know how Danny got where he is now, he goes into it in a good amount of detail on his blog. I’m no regular reader of his site, but the steps he took on his path are ones of a lot of patience, hard work, and passion (which he does a good job of reiterating in various blog posts).

PLUS if you ever read Danny’s Blog you would know that his family struggled a lot when he was younger, ie being put into a foster home for most of the week as his parents had to work up and beyond the normal hours and had no time to look after their own son!

They weren’t always made of money, the Choo’s have only made their money in the last 10-15 years or so, but i don’t expect you to know any of this, or even care to research your facts before making small minded comments, about hard working people

Danny is still cool, but this does take some of the “god” polish off of him. It makes a little more sense now. I still admire what he’s done, but coming from a professional design background does give him an edge. I kept thinking “why haven’t I done something this cool?” but now I don’t feel so bad for not having done as much. Danny kind of failed to mention this on his own life story on his blog. That being said, he’s still cool, it just adds up a little more, now. I thought he was some poor Otaku who came to Japan and made it big.

I wonder — does he leave his home in the stormtrooper gear, or does he change somewhere in public?

He mentioned somewhere on his site that his father was Jimmy Choo. It was an offhand comment about making some shoes in his dad’s workshop when he went home. So I tried looking it up and only found enough to be “pretty sure” he was Jimmy Choo’s son.

So not really advertised but not really a secret either.

Also I’ve only heard of Jimmy Choo from watching Gilmore Girls :\

Who is this we you speak of? He doesn’t seem like he’s anything like any of the ‘rich kids’ you hear about in the news. He has his own website and blog which he maintains himself (and which pays his mortgage).
Also, if you look at his website, the only mention of his father is on his about page where he says “Spent time as a shoe designer working for my father before deciding to take a completely different path and study Japanese and Korean at London University.”.

Assuming he isn’t lying about not using his Dad’s money (not that I had ever heard of Jimmy Choo before this post), then his father has nothing to do with it. As for the rest of your points, they are fantastically pathetic and petty. I can only assume you have a personal vendetta against him. I don’t know about Danny Choo, but if you want us to all officially hate you, this is the right way to go about it….
