H&M opens first shop in Japan

September 14th, 2008 by James

Thousands of people lined up yesterday for a chance to enter Japan’s first H&M:

The 4-story outlet, located in business complex at the heart of Ginza, has a floor space of about 1,000 square meters. Nearby competitors, however, include a string of casual clothing chains from home and abroad, such as Japan’s Uniqlo, America’s Gap and Spain’s Zara.

H&M is planning to open two more stores in Tokyo by the end of next year — one in Harajuku this November, and another one in Shibuya-ku in autumn next year.

Great – the Japanese finally get what the rest of the world has had for the last 100 years and it’s the best thing since sliced bread.

“Thousands of people lined up”…for uninspired discount clothing. Ha ha ha.
