What are You Looking at, Punk?

Angry Poo (Dramatization)

Angry Poo (Dramatization)

Bizarre news: A guy dressed as a famous Disney character actually seems to have gotten annoyed that people were staring at him while he went out in costume in public. Foreigners deal with the same thing here every day, but we aren’t asking for it. Something tells me if you don’t like being stared at, avoid going out in your bear pajamas. So what was his solution to being stared at? A robbing, of course. That’ll teach you to stare. At me and my friends. In our… animal outfits.
Choice quotes from the Reuter’s article:

Japanese police have arrested a 20-year-old man who attacked and robbed two people after they stared at his Winnie-the-Pooh costume, officials said on Tuesday.
Masayuki Ishikawa was hanging out on a Tokyo street corner after midnight last month while wearing the cuddly costume, accompanied by two friends dressed as a mouse and a panther, when he took offence [sic] at being stared at…
Then the perpetrator came up and said ‘What are you staring at?’” a police spokesman said.

Maybe Winnie the Pooh is mad at being called “gaijin”…. ;-)

This reminds me of that parody video where somebody was complaining about staring, and the person was dressed up like Pikachu or something.

It reminded me as well, I thought it was the same video :P
That video was done by Kevin Cooney and his comedy group friends. This is his vlog, and it has the video, too.

Also, I want to know why “offence” was marked as misspelled by the writer. It’s the British version of offense, just like “colour” and “favourite” and “defence.”

“Also, I want to know why “offence” was marked as misspelled by the writer.”

Probably because Reuters is an American outfit, and the reporter’s Microsoft Office software was telling him “offence” was a mis-spelling.

The Reuters article linked does not have the [sic]. Presumably Claytonian thought it was a mis-spelling.

Winnie the Pooh is an A.A. Milne character, not Disney.

You are right, but I doubt that there are many Pooh costumes sold in Japan that aren’t based on Disney’s interpretation of the character.

Aware of the origins, but Disney owns his soul.

As for “sic”, well, we’ve had the discussion before. It doesn’t mean “wrong”, it means “this is the way I found it”.

Yes, I know what it means. “Not my typo,” basically. What I and others question is why you felt it necessary to use in this case.
